Reminders
It's time to catch up with three of the most popular couples in BL and see what they're up to - Ae and Pete from Love by Chance, Tin and Can also from LBC, and best of all, Noh and Phun from Love Sick. This has to be a guaranteed winner, right?
Summary: The lives of six university students intersect when there's a car accident that destroys Noh's guitar and sends Pete to a doctor. Over the course of three very short episodes, there are tensions, jealousies, squabbles and tears. Can true love win out in the end?
There's honestly not much to say about this short promotional set of episodes centred around three much-loved Thai BL couples and their story. The narrative is wafer-thin and has obviously been cobbled together hastily so as to complete filming as quickly as possible. The four actors from Love by Chance aren't even given their LBC character names, so as far as they are concerned, Reminders is trading on the chemistry of couples Perth/Saint and Mean/Plan to get some residual traction from their disposable stories for Noh and Phun's. The real purpose here is getting White and Captain to reprise their famous Love Sick roles, in anticipation of the upcoming renewal of the series in a third season. They are wonderful to see together again, with Captain giving us a spikier, spiteful version of Noh. His sarcastic defenses are still there, but they're much more combative and difficult to sympathise with. White's portrayal of Phun is more open and vulnerable; he's still willing to put up with a lot of crap from his grumpy boyfriend, all for love. This evolution in their characters bodes well for Love Sick, even though their acting is still unsteady.
Rating: for fans of Love by Chance, Reminders is a hard fail and scores a 4/20, and those points are solely for giving us the chance to see Mean, Plan, Perth and Saint together again. But for Love Sick fans, this scores an easy 11/20 for sheer excitement value and anticipation.
Ending(s): all happy
Best scene: When Noh accuses Phun of negligence with words of intensely bitter cruelty, he makes us cry as much as Phun. If this is a taste of things to come, bring it on!
